Alliance for Aquatic Research and Conservation’s NextGen Laboratory is focused on developing and testing new technologies and approaches to address issues related to aquatic research and conservation, such as sustainable plastic solutions, water quality management, and ocean conservation. Our team at NextGen is also developing new technologies for tracking plastic waste using GPS and other methods, as well as creating more sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.
Our current projects:
PlastiTrace – Marine plastic waste movement tracking through GPS systems
Waste2Sea – Plastic waste utilization in harbors, Sri Lanka
BeachBlitz– Identifying industries that generate plastic waste near beaches and harbors.
What we Do!
Macroplastic research in coastal environments
We engage in tracking, documenting, estimating and interpreting macroplastic waste in coastal environments.
PlasticTrace
Marine plastic waste movement tracking through GPS systems
Sustainable solutions for plastic waste generated by coastal communities
We investigate the possibility of incorporating hybrid/circular economic frameworks to minimize plastic waste generation
